Who is responsible for reporting their activities to the Products Register?

If your company professionally manufactures chemical products or introduces these products on the Swedish market, you are responsible for reporting the Products Register about your activities. To do so is a notifiable obligation known as an activity report. The rules also apply to you if you pack, repack or change the name of chemical products in your own name in Sweden. The notification obligation applies if your products have a customs tariff number on the so-called customs tariff number list, which is an annex to the Swedish Ordinance (2008:245) on Chemical Products and Biotechnological Organisms. Pesticides are also included on the list.

Which products are notifiable to report?

If your company manufactures or introduces an annual volume of at least 100 kg per product in Sweden, there is an notifiable demand to make a product notification. A product notification contains the name of the product, its annual volume, composition details of the product, its function and intended use, labelling details, etc.

There are also special requirements on reporting products containing highly fluorinated substances, PFASs or nanomaterials.

Is your product a pesticide?

If your product is a notifiable pesticide, you must also, in addition to reporting it, apply for an authorisation for approval before you may sell and use it in Sweden.

Information for foreign companies

Suppliers providing composition information to their customers

In some cases, the company obligated to report their products to the Products Register does not have access to the composition for the products. For example, a Swedish company importing a product into Sweden from a foreign supplier is obligated to report the product, but the foreign supplier is the only one that has access to the product composition. In these cases, the foreign supplier can send their composition directly to the Products Register, without the customer having access to it.

The information about the product composition is called a Product-in-product (PiP). Once it is registered in our system, it is given a registration number, a so called A- number. The A-number can then be used as a reference to the product composition by the foreign supplier in communications with their Swedish customer in order for them to fulfil their obligation to report the product properly.

You can report Product-in-product in two ways:

  1. By our web-portal External link.. If your company previously have been reporting by paper form, please contact the Products Register by produktregistret@kemi.se to get access to your company’s record online.
  2. By paper form below.
