The Swedish Chemicals Agency collaborates with the National Institute of Chemical Safety (NICS), which is the institution responsible for evaluating biocidal products in South Korea.

South Korea has biocidal legislation that is similar to the EU's Biocidal Products Regulation. Within the EU, 27 Member States work together to assess whether biocidal products are effective and safe for human health and the environment. As there is no similar cooperation in East Asia, the Swedish Chemicals Agency provides support on both technical and policy issues relating to biocidal testing.

The cooperation is characterised by mutual collaboration and exchange of experience. South Korea, for example, is at the forefront of digitalisation, which inspires us to find ways to better utilise digitalisation to streamline our work.

The cooperation contributes to a safer and more efficient approval process for biocides, both in South Korea and in the EU, and also facilitates trade.

The collaboration is funded by the Swedish Government via the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.
