Perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (PFHxS) and its derivatives – review of the substance group in PRIO

In June 2022, Perfluorohexane sulfonic acid (PFHxS), its salts and PFHxS-related compounds was added to the Stockholm Convention for global phase-out. In May 2023, this ban was implemented in EU legislation via the POPs Regulation. PRIO has now been updated with a new substance group, Perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (PFHxS) and its derivatives, containing substances from the indicative list in the Stockholm convention (UNEP/POPS/POPRC.15/INF/9) and ECHA's example list of PFHxS substances in the POPs Regulation. The substance group Perfluorohexanesulfonic acid (PFHxS) and its derivatives can be found under Advanced search in PRIO. There are now a total of 175 substances in this substance group.

In connection with this review, the reference Stockholm Convention has been reviewed in its entirety and around forty additional substances have been added.
