More information is now available on how the proposal to restrict PFAS is developing

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the Swedish Chemicals Agency and authorities in Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Germany have published information on the work on the proposal to restrict PFAS.

The five authorities and the ECHA Scientific Committees for Risk Assessment (RAC) and for Socio-economic Analysis (SEAC) continue to review the more than 5 600 comments on the proposal submitted during the 2023 consultation.

Based on these comments, the five authorities are updating and improving the information on PFAS. They have identified uses of PFAS that were not in the original proposal and are exploring alternative types of restrictions, alongside total bans and time-limited exemptions.

The updated information is continuously shared with the ECHA committees for their ongoing evaluation of the proposal.
