Statistics in brief - Arsenic

Arsenic and arsenic compounds are toxic. The fact that arsenic is poisonous has been known for a very long time. Already in 1756, arsenic was the reason for the first regulations on poison.

The most used arsenic and arsenic compound is arsenic(V)oxide utilized in wood industry. The decrease is due to a new regulation on the use of arsenic compounds in preparations for industrial vacuum and pressure treatment. This industry sector has substituted to preparations free from arsenic compounds.

Earlier, the outstanding use of arsenic compounds was as wood preservative in wood industry. Other uses were in alloys for metal industry and in glass raw material. The use as wood preservative  has disappeared and there was no use as glass raw material in 2007.

The areas of the diagrams above do not correspond to the actual conditions relating to amount per year. The total amount for 2007 was in fact one tenth of the amount for 2001.
