Certain Swedish restrictions and bans

A number of exceptional Swedish rules restricts the occurrence of certain substances in chemical products and articles. These national restrictions and bans have no correspondence in other EU countries.

The Chemical Products (Handling, Import and Export Prohibitions) Ordinance (1998:944) contains particular provisions on bans and other restrictions when handling:

The Swedish Chemical Agency’s Regulations KIFS 2017:7 contain provisions on formaldehyde in wood-based boards. The Regulations also contain several exemptions from the bans in Ordinance 1998:944, for example on mercury and chlorinated solvents.

If there are exceptional reasons, the Swedish Chemicals Agency may grant an exemption from certain bans and other restrictions. An exemption can only be given in an individual case. The provisions for this are g.iven in Ordinance 1998:944.
