In the Swedish Chemicals Agency's appropriation directions for 2022, we were tasked with investigating which substances prevent or are problematic for the recycling of plastics, foamed plastics and plastic-like materials. The assignment was a sub-assignment within the government assignment assignment Non-toxic from the start.

Sweden’s Environmental Objectives System was adopted by the Riksdag in 1999 and has since been governing for Swedish environmental work. The environmental objectives are followed up annually and an in-depth evaluation of the conditions for reaching the goals is performed at least every four years.

In this report we present our work with the assignment Non-toxic from the start. In 2021 and 2022, the Swedish Chemicals Agency has developed the work for a circular economy nationally, within the EU and globally through special efforts.
