The Swedish Chemicals Agency conducted an enforcement project focused on the labeling of plant protection products during 2022-2023. Correct labeling is a prerequisite for users to receive sufficient information on how a plant protection product should be used and how to properly manage any risks with the product.

During 2024 the Swedish Chemicals Agency joined forces with 61 municipalities and associations of municipalities, corresponding 71 municipalities in a collaborative enforcement project focused on the presence of hazardous substances in articles sold by retailers on the Swedish market.

In order to contribute to an operational enforcement of chemicals legislation that is legally secure, equal and effective at both local and regional level the Swedish Chemicals Agency presents a plan for enforcement guidance activities. The plan describes which guidance activities the Swedish Chemicals Agency will perform within the period and is supposed to facilitate for municipalities, regional authorities and other central authorities in their planning.

The Swedish Chemicals Agency has inspected 76 products from 30 companies that sell fragrance oils and essential oils. The project aimed to ensure that the products complied with current legal requirements concerning classification, labeling, and packaging, as well as verifying that the companies were registered with the Swedish Chemicals Agency’s product register.

As part of this enforcement project, the Swedish Chemicals Agency has controlled the contents of chemical substances and the labelling of 297 toys and Halloween items. We have conducted chemical analyses of articles and looked for substances restricted by the EU Toy Safety Directive, the REACH Regulation, the RoHS Directive and the POPs Regulation.
