Chemicals in practical use
Good chemical management reduces risks and can cut costs
PRIO helps you in your professional role. Regardless of whether you work in manufacturing industry, import of textiles, are an inspector or a buyer, PRIO can be a support for you to take more well-informed decisions. This section provides information about:
- Important areas in structured work with chemicals
- How PRIO can be used by various people, such as environmental inspectors, environmental auditors and in environmental labelling
- Common and high profile groups of chemicals such as flame retardants, plasticizers and azo dyes
- An introduction to chemical substances in articles
Most companies and organisations deal with chemicals to some extent (see the illustration). Each choice is important, and there are opportunities to affect along the whole product chain.
Note that the PRIO database only contains examples of substances. In order to prioritise risk-reduced substances you must always assess the risks in the particular usage. Even substances that are not included in the database may have hazardous properties and/or give rise to major risks.
PRIO helps you to set priorities in your risk handling work, but is not an all-embracing tool!
