New requirement: Suppliers of plant protection products need education

News 11/4/2014

A new Swedish Pesticides Ordinance (2014:425) came into force in June 2014. The ordinance is adapted to new EU-regulations. The new regulations require suppliers of plant protection products to acquire training.

The Swedish Chemicals Agency is now proposing how this requirement can be implemented in our Pesticides Regulations (KIFS 2008:3). The proposal is on remit for comment until 19 November, 2014.

The Swedish Chemicals Agency is suggesting that the County Administrative Boards shall offer suppliers the training needed in order for them to gain sufficient knowledge regarding plant protection products.

The requirement that suppliers must have training can be found in Directive 2009/128/EC establishing a framework for Community action to achieve the sustainable use of pesticides, which has been implemented in Sweden through the Swedish Pesticides Ordinance (2014:425).

The training shall be based on a program determined by the Swedish Chemicals Agency.

Suppliers must fulfil the requirement of having had training by 26 November 2015 at the latest and should be able to sign up for training during the start of 2015.
