How we process your Personal Data

The Swedish Chemicals Agency (corp. ID no. 202100-3880) is responsible for its processing of personal data and for ensuring that the processing complies with the legislation.

What is personal data?

Personal data is all information that can be linked directly or indirectly to a natural person. Examples of personal data are names, email addresses, postal addresses, phone numbers, photographs, social security numbers and login details.

Processing of your personal data when you contact us

Personal data that we process are e.g., names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and postal addresses. There always has to be a legal basis for the processing of personal data. In most cases, our legal basis is that the processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of our official authority.

We only collect and process personal data that are relevant to the stated purposes for our processing. Incoming personal data to the authority may be such as those which:

  • arrive via e-mail to the Agency,
  • are found in applications and other documents regarding permits and authorisations,
  • concern cooperation between authorities, suppliers and other operators,
  • relate to education and other support measures,
  • concern companies who report to the Agency, or
  • are submitted to the website kemi.se, e.g., by web forms, or our social media accounts.

Personal data submitted through the website may be processed when you

  • sign up for or take part in our web seminars or other events,
  • subscribe to our newsletters or press releases,
  • register as a user to the Product Register's web portal or the Inspections Guidance Network or
  • ask us questions or submit a tip to us.

Personal data that you provide as a part of registrations for seminars or other events will be saved only as long as required for the management of the event and for the time needed to follow up events.

Personal data that you provide in connection with a subscription or ordering of informational material will be saved only as long as you stay a subscriber or as required to deliver an order.

Personal data that you provide when you register as a user in one of our login systems will only be saved as long as you remain as user of the system.

Personal data that you provide in connection with questions or reporting issues will be dealt with as a public act at the authority.

Right to restriction of processing of your personal data

For certain processing of personal data, we use the legal basis of consent, e.g. for subscriptions. A consent to processing personal data is valid until further notice. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time. You can do this by contacting us either by

Please note, however, that a withdrawal of your consent does not affect the legality of data processing before the consent was withdrawn.

Request access or rectification

You are entitled to contact us to get a copy of the personal data undergoing processing concerning you or to request rectification, transfer, erasure or restriction of processing of your personal data. The information required by the Swedish Chemicals Agency to be able to make a complete registry extract is

  • first and last name
  • social security number
  • e-mail address.

It is preferable if you also indicate the type of relationship you have had with the Agency and the time period in question.

Public access to information

The Swedish Chemicals Agency is a governmental authority and is bound by the principle of public access to information. This means that documents that you submit and other documents concerning you may constitute public documents to which anyone may request access. When there is a request for access to a document, we always consider whether information should be disclosed or kept confidential under the Swedish Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (2009:400).

There are also regulations on preserving and sorting out official documents. Generally, official documents should be preserved. This means that personal data in such documents often cannot be altered or erased.
