ECHA: Expert workshop on alternative testing methods

17 Feb - 18 Feb
ECHA premises, Helsinki

The workshop brings together experts from EU countries, authorities, academia, research organizations and industry to support the work of ECHA in promoting the use of New Approach Methodologies, NAMs, in environmental risk assessment. The workshop is linked to the project "Filling in the gaps to support the application of alternative methods (OECD TG 236 and 249) to replace vertebrate acute fish toxicity testing".

The event is organized by ECHA with the support of aQuaTox-Solutions, Ricardo and Ineris.

Aim and content

The workshop will present key findings from Phase I of the project, including:

  • data from OECD TG 236 and OECD TG 249 studies
  • comparisons with OECD TG 203,
  • an assessment of the scope of application of the methods based on physicochemical properties, mechanisms of action and other chemical properties.

During two half-day sessions, the objectives are to:

  • present the regulatory and scientific context of OECD TG 236 and TG 249,
  • discuss experiences with difficult to test substances
  • collect views on priorities for possible further testing and remaining knowledge gaps.

A more detailed program and materials will be sent to confirmed participants closer to the event.
