Government commissions given to the Swedish Chemicals Agency (KemI) in the appropriation directions for 2010

Simplified regulations

When designing regulations, guidance and steering documents KemI is commissioned to strive for reducing the administrative costs of industry as a result of national rules and to endeavour to simplify for companies.

The commission is to be finally reported in 2010.

Evaluation of the phasing out of mercury

The Swedish Chemicals Agency, in consultation with the National Board of Health and Welfare, is commissioned to evaluate the effect of the general, national ban on mercury that came into effect on 1 June 2009.

The use of alternative techniques for products and processes containing mercury should be considered, and particulary the need for dental amalgam in exceptional cases.

The commission is to be reported on 15 September 2010.

The products register

Commission to conduct a systematic survey of the products obliged to be reported to the products register according to applicable rules with a view to identify the need, if any, of changing the report obligation. 

An account of reduced administrative burdens to enterprises should be considered in the survey, which should be reported to the Government after consultation with the Board of Agriculture, the National Food Administration, the Medical Products Agency and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency.

Risk assessment concerning cadmium

Commission to make an assessment of the risks to human health and the environment in Sweden, based on the EU risk assessment of cadmium and new national and international findings. The need for a lower, national limit on cadmium in fertilisers should be considered as well as a suitable design of a system to monitor the cadmium content in fertilisers.

After consulting the Board of Agriculture, the National Food Administration and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency the commission is to be reported on 31 January 2011.
